4. Window Walker

Window Walker is actually one of the most useful PowerToys functions. Window Walker is basically the same as Alt + Tab, but instead of having to cycle through all open windows, you can type the program you want. If you usually have 10 to 25 windows open at the same time, this feature will be extremely helpful.

Ensure Window Walker is enabled in PowerToys.
Press Ctrl + Win.
Enter the name of the currently running program.
Select the correct program and press Enter.

5. Image Resizer

Sometimes you need to crop a series of images with the same length / width parameters. If you own PowerToys, you have a beautiful, basic option right in your context menu: Image Resizer.

Select all the images you want to resize.
Right-click on the image and select Resize pictures from the context menu.

Choose the image size and check the settings you want.

You can change the file type, naming convention, and others in the additional settings menu.
Click Resize to get the resized image!
This tool does not completely replace the more powerful third-party programs, but it is fast and simple enough for basic tasks.

6. PowerRename

Like Image Resizer, PowerRename is quite basic compared to other available programs, but this brings a little closer to the original Windows functionality. You can rename files and folders using the search and replace feature or, for more control, regular expressions.

Select all the files you want to rename.
Right-click on the file and choose PowerRename from the context menu.

Enter the text you want to search and the text you want to replace.

Select the option, such as whether you want to put the file in a subdirectory or not.
Select the file in the Preview you want to rename.
Click Rename to make changes

7. File Explorer

Did you know that the Preview window in File Explorer shows you the file content without having to open it? This feature doesn’t support every file type, which is why Microsoft is using PowerToys as a way for developers to add support for the types they want to be able to preview.

Currently, enabling this feature will add support for .svg (vector) and .md (markdown) files, but may be further expanded in the future.

Everything is just getting started with PowerToys and expect more utility tools will soon appear. Because the project code is currently open source, developers from around the world can participate and develop utility tools for PowerToys.

Microsoft has released PowerToys Windows 10 “flavors” for you to try. Note that these are preview builds and may behave erratically on the system.
